Very sad to hear that former federal president Köhler passed away. He was a popular president and advocate for closer engagement with Africa. After his time at Bellevue Palace he also dedicated his time for the UN on difficult issues. He will be missed.

Last week, I travelled to Damascus for the first time since 2006 - a very emotional visit. At @bmz.de we never suspended our work for the people of Syria. After the fall of Assad, Minister Svenja Schulze announced additional support especially in the health sector.
