Foliage alert! 🍁 Our bonsai collection has begun to show off fantastic fall colors. BBG’s bonsai display changes with the seasons, and as many as 30 specimens are on exhibit at any given time. This red maple displaying brilliant red leaves was recently put on display.

As part of City of Forest Day, join a bonsai-themed tour on October 4, comparing trees in the Bonsai Museum to their full-size counterparts outside on the Garden grounds.

Do you know where this splendid bit of BBG is located? 🌼 Sprays of colorful asters and bright willowleaf sunflowers can still be found around the Garden right now.

Did you know the Fragrance Garden at BBG is made up almost entirely of annual plantings? 🌷🌻 Created in 1955, the Alice Recknagel Ireys Fragrance Garden was the first in the U.S. designed to accommodate people with visual impairments, aiming to engage visitors on a multisensory level.

The Cranford Rose Garden’s fall flush has arrived! 🌹 In September, a second flush of roses blooms in Cranford and the Rose Arc, alongside delightful dahlias, hibiscuses, lilies, and more. BBG’s director of Horticulture Shauna Moore estimates these blooms will last until mid-October.

BBG’s 2025 Artist in Residence performances are this month! 🌿 How do we care for the land that cares for us? This is the question at the heart of Julia Rocha-Nava’s new song cycle “Cantos Para La Tierra, Songs for the Land.” Performance held on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21.

Summer isn’t over yet! 😎 Though there’s an ever so slight chill in the air, blooms like waterlilies, cardinal flowers, roses-of-Sharon, and more are still dazzling across the Garden.

Bloom alert! 💗 BBG’s crape-myrtles are in bloom now. These multistemmed shrubs have extravagant panicles of crinkly flowers which appear in a wide array of colors ranging from white to multiple hues of pink to red. Find them at BBG near the Robert W. Wilson Overlook and along Lily Pool Terrace.

Happy tenth birthday to the updated Discovery Garden! 🎂 Founded in 1996 and relocated and expanded in 2015 with an updated design, the Discovery Garden at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a one-acre immersive landscape designed with kids and their caregivers in mind.

Water-lilies and sacred lotuses are continuing to bloom beautifully in Lily Pool Terrace. 🪷 While they may look similar at first glance, water-lilies and lotuses are distinct plants. Water-lily leaves and flowers tend to float on the surface of the water, whereas lotuses stretch a foot or so above.

Saw a hummingbird at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and it made me incadescently happy. So while I didn’t get a photo of the hummingbird, I do have a bunch of flower photos that I hope make other people feel something outside of “complete despair and horror”
