Just in time for the new year, I did it: I finished a sketchbook that I've been working on as a side project since 2019. A small sketchbook filled with full page completed illustrations and sketches. cover to cover, both sides of every page. 56 drawings counting the covers.

Ever since I learned this, I have made a point to preorder books from authors and artists I follow from my local bookstore. Often, they'll order an extra copy or two to stock on the shelves. It's crazy how low the number is to make a tangible difference!

Nothing fills me with a sense of dread quite like the work of artist Chris Van Allsburg. When I was very young, his illustrations terrified me just as much as the ones in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, but in a way I didn't even have words to describe yet. He was liminal before liminal was cool

Shinya Ohira animates like nobody else. He's a maverick artist known for the raw, explosive power of his drawings. If you've seen The Boy and the Heron, you know his work. For this issue, we've gone inside his career and spoken to him about his craft:

People sometimes ask me how I animate cameras — I wish I could say there’s a master plan, but I improvise as I go. Tweaking the FOV helps shape what the viewer sees — more of the world, or a close-up. From outside the camera, the scene’s usually a mess (*ノ▽ノ)

A month ago I had to put my cat Mila down. Haven't talked or posted about it much. I've lost pets before, but her passing affected me way more & for way longer than I thought it would. She was a great cat that loved & was loved by everybody that met her.

As I work towards my first comic I'm exploring how to ink foliage and natural scenes. I've been drawing a lot of incredible inspiration from Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein and the Vinland Saga Manga.

My long-held stance about gamedev is that "juniors will run circles around the entire industry if merely given the chance." Either help lift them up or get out of the way!!!

Navicula Meatus is a cryptic and mysterious adventure where you play as a crab creature in a city of grotesque beings, where even the dialogues are incomprehensible. Exchange items and money with the inhabitants to unlock more areas.

So anyway, I created an updated version of that XdanielArt chart that contains all the Adobe alternatives since there are a lot more now than there were back when that list was originally made, and Adobe has continued to get shittier and shittier.

Do you like simply walking around a surreal world and seeing the best and most insane animation you've ever seen in your life. I do. I was smiling ear to ear playing this game. Also it's free. Enjoy.

It’s kinda interesting and predictable that AI has found its home in filters. Something that was already popular, universal, and automated. Really makes it funnier that people are using a funny instagram filter and saying “this is going to change all of art forever this is the new awakening”
