Recently finished Popful Mail for the Sega CD. What a delightfully fun game. It’s really a shame that an English localization is so inaccessible to most people. It definitely has that Working Designs artificially dialed up difficulty but I really enjoyed it nonetheless.

Wow. It must suck to be someone who is looking forward to GTA VI.

I finally have 100% completed my @cosam-the-great.bsky.social Sega Neptune build. I got an excellent 3D print of DVIZIX’s shell and some decals. I’m really happy with how this turned out and it is really fun playing on a Sega console that I built. Def got some childhood wish fulfillment going here.

Why is everyone talking about modern AAA games when you can just play the Sega Saturn instead

For #randomgamesaturday I have Albert Odyssey for Sega Saturn. Ok, maybe it isn’t so random since I did another Working Designs game last week. This one is a classic JRPG and is the gaming equivalent of comfort food for me. You basically know exactly what you’re going to get here. It’s a good time.

For #randomgamesaturday, I’ve got Popful Mail for the Sega CD. This is a Working Designs Game so, of course, it has a unique/bizarre localization, ramped up difficulty, and their characteristic voice acting. It’s a really fun game though and I wish there were more ways for people to enjoy in English

I’ve only been playing the demo for a few hours but, man, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter just hits so right.

Been playing Knuckles’ Chaotix with my 7 year old in 2-player mode. The thing about that game is it’s really bad.

I know there has been lots of talk recently about Nintendo Switch 2 Game Key Cards. My take is that there is a solution no one seems to be talking about. If the storage medium is too slow to run the game from but you still want to own a complete copy of the game in physical form, 1/2

For #randomgamesaturday, I’m going with a favorite; Radiant Silvergun for the Sega Saturn. Such a beautiful game and so much fun to play. Has incredible music and sound too.

Just getting around to trying Doom CD32X Fusion and I am blown away. It is unbelievable playing Doom at this resolution, sound quality, and frame rate on a Genesis+32X+Sega CD. Incredible work.

Wondering if the Virtual Boy Nintendo Switch classics accessory components are compatible with a real Virtual Boy. Like, could I buy that accessory and get a new stand and eye shade for my real Virtual Boy? Might be worth $100 for that alone…

I would like to once again bring awareness to the excellent Virtual Boy emulator for the 3DS, Red Viper. It works incredibly well. A fantastic way to play these actually great games in a palatable form that both retains the 3D effects without the headaches.

In the last week I fixed my favorite CRT TV that stopped powering on, my Sega Neptune prototype that appeared to have a factory issue with the factory installed cartridge slot, and an untested Sega Saturn that had a broken player 1 controller port. Feels pretty good!

It is September 9th which means it is the Dreamcast’s birthday (26 years!). As is my custom, I had to play some of my favorite games. I took some pictures but pardon the quality. I am not good at taking pictures of a CRT TV. Happy Birthday @sega-west.bsky.social Dreamcast!

My beautiful Bang & Olufsen CRT TV has died and I can’t seem to resurrect it. With my Saturn suddenly dying two weeks ago, I’m feeling really low about my favorite hobby. This cheered me up though. I’m glad I still have my little 8” Sony broadcast monitor.

@jaelius.bsky.social but my Saturn just boots to a black screen if I don’t solder pad 28 on the FRAM, the FRAM’s Pin 28, and the +5 on the BIOS chip. The Saturn boots fine when all three are soldered together but I can’t save to the FRAM (it won’t clear or create new saves). Any ideas? Thx! (2/2)

@jaelius.bsky.social I installed a new FRAM and BIOS chip in my VA0 Saturn and got it back up running again. The thing I cannot figure out is this. Normally Pin 22 is lifted and wired to GND and Pin 28 is lifted and wired to +5V on the BIOS chip (www.consolesunleashed.com/guides/sega-...). 1/2

Probably relevant to nobody, but did you know that you can take the L/R shoulder button membranes from the cheap and widely available Old Skool Gamecube Digital Controller and put them into your rare and expensive Hori Gamecube Digital Controller?

I’m loving Earthion on Steam but would love to decrypt the game.bin file that it comes with and play it on my actual Sega Neptune. Does anyone have instructions for how to decrypt that file?

Moon (2009)

The first version of Earthion is out. This is one of those games that, if you have any interest in 2D shooters or the Mega Drive, you just buy it. It is an absolute masterpiece. This is among the best 16-bit shooters I've ever played at this point. Seeing 'of the era' devs returning to OG hardware=🔥

Random Game Saturday More of a utility than a game but it is one of the few disc-only games I have. It’s called Pokèmon Box and it lets you trade and store loads of Pokèmon on a Gamecube memory card using the GBA Gamecube Link Cable. Kind of Pokèmon Home before that was a thing.
