The thing that makes me insane about this and Vincke’s comments is why would you trust AI to make a reference? They’re notoriously bad at doing that and produce banal results! Go buy some art books, they’re great. How is it empowering concept artists to have them not do that?

Creatives can make stuff however they like, but for me, games and films using GenAI is identical to finding an insect in my meal -- it immediately kills my appetite for a great dish, I don't really care how it got there, and it's effortless to eat somewhere else.

Imagine your team makes a generationally renowned piece of entertainment and then immediately turning around and using fucking ChatGPT to make concept art in an IP you own.

Why would anyone handover the most creative and human part of creative development and give it to a regurgitating stealing machine?

Concept art, ideating, temp and placeholder art is where the magic happens. It's also a place for more junior folks on a team to contribute work and get better at it. There is no GenAI replacement for that experience and collaboration. It's going to hurt the team and project in the long term.
