I must admit that I pity a little musicologists who only work with long-established material. The work of editing, of seeing a work take shape in Sibelius and eventually be heard again for the first time in ages is perhaps light-weight academically, but it is immensely satisfying.

I came to BlueSky late, but after a good month on the platform I am enjoying myself more than I ever did on the other site, on which I wrote for a couple of years before the takeover. Even then it felt cliqueish in a way that I have not experienced here – probably the work of the algorithm.

I absolutely adore this symphony, and wish I could include it in my eighteenth-century symphony course. It is cryptonite to the idea of the symphony as absolute music, and one of the works that all lovers of music should be acquainted with.

I received the best Christmas present in a while this year: the first Norwegian translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses, and translated by my former lecturer and current friend Thea Selliaas Thorsen! I am giddy about starting on this!
