Be clear, firm (if warranted), succinct and polite. Ask a direct question about what they will do to address [insert your concern here]. That’s it. Nothing to be afraid of.

I've chatted with folks before who are nervous about writing or calling their MP/MLA/MPP. Because they're "important". They work for us, that's literally the job. Our taxes pay their salaries. Communicating with your elected representatives is no different than ordering from a waiter.
