I'm sure that the DanDan secret lair is an interesting project & I'm sure that the people who worked on it did a great job because, well, they're great at what they do but I am simply saddened by the lack of any involvement/acknowledgement of Nick Floyd (so far anyways)

Thanks, Cal. It’s not over yet, but if they were going to reach out and give me credit I would think they would have contacted me by the time it was announced. But I am not really surprised. A little disappointed. But not surprised. It’s cool to see it in print as an official product.

For those unaware, Nick Floyd is the literal creator of the DanDan format. Finding out that WotC did not so much as reach out to him is saddening, to say the least.

I’ve not seen the full Dandan Secret Lair. I don’t really care if I get credit or anything from it. Rhystic Studies and informed players know its origins. I just hope I’ll be able to own a copy of the official release and not have them sell out to scalpers and stuff like I’ve heard can be a problem.

you want more women playing your game? you don't need to make pandering and patronizing themes, you just need to make it so that when they go to stores and events, they actually feel welcome and secure, and not just surrounded by a bunch of neanderthals who can't wait to talk down to the newcomers

...almost in need of an awareness campaign of the issues women face when trying to get into Magic. Blatantly pointing out the problems. Because even well-meaning comments ("You don't see a lot of women playing Magic!") make them feel like outsiders.

What's more important than drawing women in, is getting them to stay. Making them feel welcome and like equals. There are already plenty of women interested in normal Magic themes, but too many stories of terrible LGS experiences. Most of it is in the hands of LGSs, owners and attendees. It's...

it's not that these people don't value art — that is a neutral and passive act. it's that they love not valuing art. they love the "verb" of dis-valuing art. there's a difference.
