Fun fact: In 1886 women were BANNED from stepping foot on Liberty Island for the Statue of Liberty unveiling ceremony bc the men in charge were afraid suffragists would protest/ point out women couldn’t vote in the U.S. (or in France where it came from). As a result, there were zero women present.

I’m seeing a lot of confusion about the Equal Rights Amendment online. I've been working on the ERA for 13 years & literally wrote a book about it. So, let me help answer some questions. 1) Yes, it really is a real amendment & fully part of the U.S. Constitution. Full stop.

The stories saying that the ERA, although duly ratified by 38 states as required by Article V, won’t become law until some functionary at the National Archives agrees to publish it, have no constitutional basis. In 1952 the Boston Symphony wanted to diversify its orchestra, so they had applicants play behind a screen. The results still skewed male. Then they asked ppl to take off their shoes. Once they removed their shoes 👠 almost 50% of women made it past the first audition. Unconscious bias is real.
