We arrived at Staten Island at 6:37am on December 8th 2025. The first time in 22,297 days that it was possible to have taken a ferry from Brooklyn directly to Staten Island!

I was (seemingly) the only person to care about the first M via 63 St. And I was 100% the only person to care about the first St George ferry from Wall St.

The argument is "people need it for accessibility" which is nonsensical because if people need transit THIS close to their origin / destination, we can't realistically expect them to navigate transit facilities unaided, they should be getting an accessible shuttle / taxi.

Replacing the ten trip, valid for 6 months, with a new system that is limited to travel within a 14 day period. Unacceptable!! The new system would be fine, if it were valid over a period of 6 months. There is no reason to cut this discount for regular but infrequent riders.

@transit.app Just because the next bus is turned on, does not mean it is going to depart nearly 30 min early. This is a consistent, recurring problem with the app. It makes it unusable for trip planning or for the non-technical user if you are on an infrequent bus route. Not sure how to fix it.

Me: Free buses aren’t worth it, just do all door boarding with OMNY Also me: Rides the free Roosevelt Island red bus all the time. And loves the benefits of everyone being able to pile on with no delay. I genuinely didn’t put these two facts for so long. Oops.

The M34A needs to be eliminated. It ruins reliability of the route with the traffic on 8th Ave. All M34 buses should continue down 34th St to the Hudson River. Splitting the service makes it less useful to everyone since each branch is infrequent.

Cuomo had nothing to do with the IBX. It was started by Hochul.

I am endlessly obsessed with how the dense tree cover on many parts of the IBX corridor make it look like a rural rail line. I’m sure many of the mature tree will be gone after the construction. A worthy sacrifice.

I don’t like uncoordinated transfers at Jamaica. But I think it’s worth appreciating that a different thought *never* crossed my mind while visiting family. “It’s getting late, will there be a train to get me home?” Anywhere else in North America this would be a concern. Not on the LIRR.

It is honestly impressive how fast they are doing elevator construction – also they're not really afraid to do a ton of street-level disruption? 86th and Lex right now is a minefield of construction because of the elevators going in and it's annoying but worth it to get it done

Elevators are going in, albeit at fairly extreme costs (which I've written about); but in defense of those costs they've basically become the mechanism for the first concerted station renovation effort at the MTA in 70 years. CBTC is finally going in at pace. East Side Access actually got finished.
