Just finished the Behind the Bastards episodes on the impact of Jeffrey Epstein. And like a takeway is that he started funding anti-trans research because he allegedly SA'd a trans girl (she was 16 at the time) who turned around and sued his ass for it and he was mad that she sued him.

I'll be curious to see if I can recreate the network of psychologists and fellow travelers I once had on ye olde bird site during the late 2010s and early 2020s. That may turn out to be a tall order to the extent we all scattered. But I'll hold out some hope.

198 effect sizes in ego depletion resesrch showed an effect size of d=0.62. Preregistered large replications (including some by original authors) yielded an effect size of 0. No one has been able to offer any other explanation for this huge research waste than massive p-hacking.

Next month I will be at a conference that caters to obscure scholars like me. So, since so much of the conference is focused on the education side of the social sciences, I am giving a brief talk on post-peer review and how I have been incorporating it into my methodology instruction.

I am so thankful I was an undergrad during the pre-AI era, and really the era before the first web browser was launched. There really is something to say about kicking it old school when it comes to making the most of a college education.

One of my students will be presenting her work from my Experimental Psychology course on art and anxiety. Specifically, she had students produce artwork (doodling, drawing) after getting baseline state anxiety measures and then later did a posttest in which state anxiety was again measured.

This is particularly weird because most of Open Science boils down to: just be honest. Write down in your paper what you actually did. Seems a rather low bar for any science, but apparently pointing this out touches upon a very sensitive issue for some fellow academics.

For anyone curious, the profile photo is a selfie taken at a riverfront trail near downtown Fort Smith about a couple years ago (yes, I still work for UAFS). The cover photo was taken at a lookout spot on the way to Mount Magazine last fall.
