SocArXiv accepts law papers, as we always have. Some of the bells and whistles he wants we don't have- like ranking and email subscriptions, but those can be built using SocArXiv. We don't have funds or staff to help build that, but law schools do.

Again, informal norms were keeping institutions manageable and AI is breaking them down. Like with academic papers, these machines make it possible for people whose exclusion used to be taken for granted to produce documents that appear to meet formal qualifications, and demand time and attention.

I wrote up a response to the "Preprint Problem" paper. Racist heriditarian pseudoscience is bad, and more than none of it is posted on preprint servers, which is also bad. But the paper does not establish that this is a "preprint problem," which is my angle obviously. /1

This paper is not an attack on preprints. I highlight how fringe scientists have *weaponized* preprinting, just as they have weaponized other foundational tools of mainstream science including journals (see my PoPS paper), software, and public data (e.g., ABCD). journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Two new facts stand out: 1. 85% of hallucinated citations in preprints are also in the subsequent journal version (thanks, peer review!) 2. Fake cites more likely to use the names of (male) scholars who are already highly cited, creating a fake-citation Matthew effect. arxiv.org/abs/2605.07723

I recognize the problem of too much arguing about new ideas. There is lack of coordination to advance post-publication evaluation mechanisms in systematic well-organized way. I hope the Publish-Review-Curate Alliance that is currently being set up will help to change this: publish-review-curate.org

I’m at the @improvingpsych.org online conference at a session about #PsyArXiv moderation, which switched from a post-moderation system (DOI assigned before moderation) to a pre-moderation system in 2025 for reasons that should be apparent on this plot.

With conscription again under debate, @ivancanzio.bsky.social and I examined how conscription was institutionalized across 18 European countries and assessed how its suspension was associated with men’s early-career occupational placement.

They sell authorships, sometimes for papers that have already been accepted. We suspect fraudsters also sometimes list co-authors without permission to boost fake reputations.

SocArXiv is accepting about 12.9 new papers per day for the last three months (not counting revisions). That's a pace of almost 5000 per year.

IMO an important academic value is that your personal identity is accountable for what you put into the public space. Thus pseudonyms inappropriate for academic work & your ORCiD should have enough public info to "out" you to others. (Posting my view in a discussion among preprint moderators.)
