Monday fishposting! I think this is a juvenile flatfish of some sort; I'm unsure whether both eyes are on the same side of it or whether that process has only just begun. Pic from a blackwater dive in Balayan Bay, Anilao

This bobtail squid burrowing into the sand is already adorable, but please watch till the very end! It sticks out its little arms and earnestly sprinkles sand over itself π¦πβππ

Mikrogeophagus ramirezi, the ram cichlid, is a native of the Llanos ecoregion of Venezuela and Colombia. These are a male and female that I kept some years ago of a wild-type strain. π

So you're a medieval landlord, collecting property rent from your peasants in eels. How do you count them? Eels were usually counted in units called sticks (25 eels) -- possibly from the number of eels you can smoke on a stick at one time. 10 sticks of eels was called a bind. ποΈπ§ͺ

European perch will follow around eels and wait for them to distrub prey then quickly rush in to snatch the food away from the eel. This is a learned behaviour showing fish aren't quite as dumb as you might think.

all done the paludarium renovation for now! i didnt originally want to include the big cork round thats filling up space in the middle, but it's the only reason the water doesn't drip audibly :( i also plan to remove the filter after the water clears up.

My two male Emperor gobys have really coloured up the last two days, they aren't fully grown yet if they are to reach 12cm, but hey look at him. It's been hard getting a good picture of them as they swim in and out of the plants all the time, but here is one and he is both glorious and grandios.

Also, congratulations everyone who made something this year. A comic, a song, a film, a novel, a painting, a poem, a short story, a sculpture, crochet, embroidery, whatever it is. In this era of slop and theft, if you *make* something you are a shining jewel and I am so grateful for you.
