Black faced blennies have a fairly limited distribution in england but have perhaps some of the most tropical looking markings of any fish we have. Although a blenny they aren't closely related to the other "comb tooth" blenny species we have like tompots or shannies.

I spent 12 hours in a hide in Skye a few years ago trying to get shots of a golden eagle and all I ended up with was this hooded crow! Its the way it goes sometimes.

If I had a £1 for every time a angler thinks a image of a small barbel is a gudgeon or stone loach I'd have about £12 but its a common mistake. Quick and easy different is count the barbels, the barbel has 4, gudgeon 2 and loach 6.

Last year I fulfilled a lifelong dream to Visit Australia and headed to Melbourne with my wife and friends. I immediately fell in love with it all the wildlife, great food and of course packed a rod as I really wanted to get myself a Murray Cod. #ThrowbackThursday

Might not look like much but this is the source of the River Trent on Biddolph Moor in Staffordshire not often I can say I had both feet either side of the Trent. With my book “Great British River” out in April was lovely to see this as the Trent is featured.

I often see with fish I.D that people will quote colour as absolute way to I.D fish species but fish change colour so rapidly, best you use it as a helpful marker but saying "it doesn't have red fins" doesn't mean its not a roach as is the case with this image of a roach with almost clear fins.

One thing I’m keen to do film more European fish and I have plans to try for Vimba, Burbot and a few others this year. I’m very tempted to visit some of the Spanish and Portuguese rivers for the various barbel species and endemics to.
