We ended our legislative session with big wins for transit: We allocated billions for regional rail & high speed rail, authorized a Bay Area regional revenue measure to strengthen transit & passed SB 79 to allow more homes near transit. Transit makes the world better. Let’s improve & protect it.

Collaborating on the permanent design with Hood River Public Works, we opted for a permeable entry modeled on @seattledot.bsky.social Healthy Streets. This allows emergency vehicles, residents and staff to drive through the School Street zone, and the City can still plow and sweep the streets. 3/x

School Street pilots and demonstrations are very helpful. We conducted 4X 1-day pilots and 1-month and 6-month demonstrations. These gradually built support from local residents and parents and made it politically easy for the School District and City to get behind. 2/x

Fantastic last-minute turnout for the Bay Area transit funding rally this morning with @transbaycoalition.bsky.social. We need @governor.ca.gov to follow through on a promised 750 million for transit, or risk devastating service cuts and a spiral of traffic nightmares.

I’m so energized by today’s rally to save transit! I spoke about how dependent El Cerrito is on transit. We’re one of the most pro-housing cities in the Bay Area, and almost all of it is being built near transit. We need robust transit. Gov Newsom: approve the $750 mil transit loan immediately!

The Bay Area turned out this morning to say we will NOT stand for 85% service cuts on BART, and worse service and traffic for everyone who relies on Caltrain, Muni, and AC Transit. 💪🏻
