Worth underscoring: DOT expects a level of undercounting at these sensors due to bikes missing them, sensitivity of sensors, or other interferences. All but one location included in the study had smaller levels of undercounting.

Cannot wait to see this work continue down to Grand Army Plaza next year with the block-long, concrete bus boarding islands, which will really make Flatbush feel much calmer and help pedestrians cross more easily.

One cool thing about this bike lane is that it is reducing crossing distance on my corner and making it safer for me to cross Court Street, which I do approximately a million and one times every day.

As part of NYC DOT's quarterly Vision Zero update, we highlighted a few recent street redesigns that brought major safety gains. On Schermerhorn St, pedestrian injuries dropped 31% while bike ridership grew 30%. As we've seen all over, bike lanes make streets safer for pedestrians, too.

Starting this spring, NYC DOT will be installing 11 concrete pedestrian islands and 2 bus boarding islands along Queens Boulevard, upgrading existing painted spaces from 35th St to 43rd St. More capacity to build with concrete = more upgrades like this.
