Today NYC DOT is beginning distributing certified, fire-safe e-bikes + batteries to delivery workers as part of our trade-in program. Workers are trading uncertified e-bikes and illegal mopeds in exchange. Here’s the bike for distribution & 1 of the mopeds being traded in.

Starting this spring, NYC DOT will be installing 11 concrete pedestrian islands and 2 bus boarding islands along Queens Boulevard, upgrading existing painted spaces from 35th St to 43rd St. More capacity to build with concrete = more upgrades like this.

Looking up 8th Ave, 30s & 40s. 2011. This is REALLY cool. Back then I was always looking for ways to document NYC so I used to ride tour buses and shoot streets from above. Turn up the sound! Funny thing is these tours often didn't have super reliable narrators. But they were entertaining. Listen.

Before NYC DOT redesigned Third Avenue in 2023, the anti-bike lane crowd was pretty loud on The Other Site. Since then, we've seen dramatic safety gains AND a 79% increase in cycling. Data: -33.3% drop in total injuries -42.9% drop in motor vehicle injuries -54.3% drop in ped injuries
