I believe one of the most effective things non-caregiver adults can do to prevent teens from getting exploited by extremists & other bad actors online, is to go out of our way to make neighbourhoods safer & more welcome places for kids to exist freely. Even when it is irritating/exasperating for us.

I also just can't state enough... the things that reduce loneliness in others also reduce loneliness in young men! I think it's easier to treat if we understand it as a grass-touching deficit and not a unique strain of what is actually a global affliction

For the record, half of how Nick Fuentes gets spread around is that he works tirelessly to embody the “Worst person you know just made a great point” meme. All he needs is for enough people to spread it around and enough people not to know who he is for it to succeed. And it’s going quite well.

This stuff is a step up from the evangelical persecution fetish of imagining that one day they'll be dragged before an emperor to either deny Christ or be thrown to the lions, and it's not an escalation we can afford to tolerate.

Part of the way we make it clear that we're not going to let them get away with it is by calling it what it is. Don't drape it in euphemisms, spell out that they're encouraging young men to seek out opportunities for martyrdom.

Children are "billions of people, as fully human as the rest of us. Their right to participate and engage with the community isn’t up for discussion or debate. Saying you don’t want to see children shouldn’t be a cheeky refrain. It should be a record scratch." Excellent vital piece ⤵️

there are a lot of places this article could have gone, and I think the author did a good job sticking to a pretty unassailable position on patriarchal subordination, but I also think a lot of this is also connected to an insidious kind of resentment-fueled revenge politics of rape...

Knowing that no one who has ever raped or abused me (or any of the people I know) will ever face legal consequences for it, and having to watch the high-profile reification of the carceral system as a credible means of “justice” every couple years, is legitimately mentally obliterating.

One thing we haven’t grappled with, even in Me Too’s long aftermath, is the reality that the abysmal rate of not just reporting, but prosecution and conviction, means that by any common measure, sexual violence is de facto legal.

This article describes ultraviolent acts against women - dismemberment, even cannibalism. This is horrific. I have noticed in this (my) field, though, a concerning tendency* to wait to describe the "real-world violence" of misogyny and male supremacy, until it reaches this ultraviolent threshold.

I found out this weekend that my childhood babysitter is expecting a baby with her wife. She's the seventh queer person I've learned about, from the big conservative Catholic families I grew up with. I was the second. We were always there. We have always been here. We were never actually alone.

they're threatened by the simple idea that children are not property. without that premise, patriarchy makes no sense. reproductive and sexual labor classes make no sense. trading children to other patriarchs in "marriage contracts" makes no sense. it all falls apart if children are already people.
