I've used many ESM/mobile sensing apps/tools but it's been a while since I've launched a new study of this kind. Does anyone know of an uptodate table/taxonomy/document/resource/github page summarising the relative features/options/pros/cons/pricing of the various options?

Open Terms Archive[1] is a pretty cool service: They track, scrape, and store all versions of online platforms' ToS and privacy policies and make them publicly available. Might be pretty interesting to use e.g. in longitudinal studies to track platform changes. [1]: opentermsarchive.org/en/

It's great to finally have something to share from this collaboration. We started working on this idea in late 2022... We argue that research on MMT and attentional control has neglected intra-individual variation in control. This holds significant implications for theory and research design.

The consensus paper deserves plenty of criticism. I won’t defend the process, how some have framed the findings, or claims that it represents a preponderance of evidence. I (naively?) contributed hoping to shape a more accurate view of the evidence, given how it might be used. t.co/7r6WQ6vCbm

While the 'belief' plot draws attention, the core message of the final, deliberative consensus statements is that evidence linking smartphone and social media use to negative outcomes is limited, mixed, context-dependent, insufficient to support causal claims, and better research is needed.

A great read! 🔥 A call to value description, prioritize regularities (within person effects with specific functional forms), account for third variables, formalize models, and unify theories... and rethink the foundations of how develop our cumulative understanding of media effects.

ICA 2027 to be held in Glasgow rather than in Chicago as originally planned. Really the only move in a climate that jeopardizes every part of the conference's acronym - international, communication, and association.

Imagine if media literacy as a high school class. Literally teaching kids how to read and parse and fact check consumed media. I see no downsides. Maximum real life applicability.
