I remind you all that I have, thus far, not used my institutional access for any paywalled articles or books. I would rather the institution that I am studying at not support proprietary content publishers and instead invest in people (otherwise known as staff in HR speak).

I think this is pretty much a correct take on the negative sides of the preprint revolution, especially the rich get richer phenomenon. But I would shift the blame a bit since it's not my decision that a newspaper talks about my preprint in ways XYZ.

One comment that resonated with me was Andrew Gelman's in-class quip (heavily paraphrased from a dusty 10 year old memory) that it doesn't matter if I read a research finding in a report found on a bus or in a fancy journal. *Assuming* contents are real, the work stands on its own legs.

This is really nice. But at the same time it is sad that a separate journal for replications is needed. Replications are not a different kind of thing but instead a foundational aspect of normal run of the mill science biz. We should not reinforce the idea that they should be treated differently.

I remember reading a blog post somewhat recently on here arguing that for open science practices every effort counts. So we should not expect every paper to fulfil all open science criteria immediately but researcher should start by making their data open, then their code, etc. Anyone has a link?

detection d' is generally overestimated, coz we tend to be too lazy to collect the necessary data in order to correct for the unequal variance between target present vs absent distributions. turns out we can do this for free - using reaction times data. so, let's do it~ osf.io/preprints/ps... 🧠📈

This just in (my email an hour ago): An academia[.]com supported platform is inviting my submissions in microbiology and translational immunology. I am a psychologist. Just in case someone thought that website has some credibility. It doesn't.

Just to add to the discourse: academia dot edu is a garbage website that adds no value. I deleted my account a decade ago and never once even remotely regretted it. You can get the same experience but better elsewhere.
