Speaking of Mrs Henrietta Lacks, I did learn there was another prison experiment that involved injecting prisoners with HeLa cells, effectively-immortal cancer cells taken from her and cultured without her knowledge or permission. The story of that cell line is grim, but this must be a low point.

I looked this up. I wondered what laws might have been broken at the time - I haven't been able to find the info, because Google results about the legal consequences of these past abuses are swamped by the stacks of laws and regulations put in place as a result of these atrocities. Also, H. Lacks.
