You know, at first I didn't think 5.7 preview was really gonna have anything that was going to excite me, but the retargeting for even meshes I used to struggle with in 5.6 is so simple now! What used to take me hours of fiddling with animations and RTG assets takes minutes and it's automatic!

Instead of using AI slop for Final Fantasy VIII stuff, use Unreal Engine and other 3D modeling stuff, you can do it, junction yourself to tools that don't kill the planet.

Since I built this on Switch, I had to merge multiple videos. It's based on some older VXAce eventing, but it works! It has gender/class changes, & even acknowledges the player's name. I'm adding a day/night cycle, crafting, & skill levels/checks. I want to flesh it out with UE5/PPerZD eventually.

This weekend's project; Death. Up till now, there hasn't been a death state. Now there's a basic HP check that swaps the actor for a corpse. If you do more than half it's HP on kill in 1 hit, it triggers an OverKill which bisects the NPC and yields 2xScrap but half Souls. #CherubDev #UE5 #GameDev

Quick test of my current system project. Ledge grabs & a Tictac vertical wall run. I'm still trying to figure some things out, maybe redo it next week without the ledge grab to see why it's so wonky. The wall traces are wrong, & it shouldn't be able to do it continuously. Otherwise, great success.

Really liking the new First Person template in UE5! But just a heads-up, there’s a bug in Unreal 5.6.1 where the arena shooter doesn’t load the correct Blueprints by default. Check my image for the right settings for BP_FirstPersonGameMode. #gamedev #ue5
