This is so dumb. It is impossible to overstate the historical pull of the Cuomo dynasty in NY Dem politics. Mario was a three term governor. A Cuomo has been on the Dem ballot line in about half of elections since the 70s. Mamdani still got over 50% in spite of all that.

NYC real estate being a sponge for financialized international capital investment is the engine driving unaffordability. Sectoral labor bargaining could avoid lots of lobbying and these kind of regulations, but that would give too much power to labor for these types.
