If you define "research" as, say, producing scatter plots or sorting quantitative data faster than a human could, well...is that really research? Or is it processing? "Using google maps" is different than "taking a vacation."

This gives away the whole game, as people have been warning for years and years. This is identity erasure of a whole class. the precedents for having documents revoked by group…are not good.

This is a fabulous example of why LLMs are not useful for historical research. I'll be using this reading in class!

I have said this before, but eliminating programs that teach a lot of students but don’t have many majors is like a restaurant not buying flour in its grocery delivery because people aren’t ordering flour on the menu.

This is one culminating event in a chain of events that has been going on for years. It's horrifying. A person's safety should not depend on the whims of the electorate.

Please imagine the day that will come without concerted resistance - the day where people will literally not know how to do the basic work that keeps us all functioning and alive because they literally never learned it.

And these departments are sites of belonging for students who are often marginalized among the student population at Iowa (says an alum). Also a political choice.

Regarding last re-post: let's not imagine that moving states is some easy fix. It severs community ties. It takes money. It means leaving behind beloved places. It can be isolating. It can be the safest thing to do and STILL suck.
