How is TJ Maxx not getting in on "looksmaxxing," riding it hard for a fiscal quarter of advertising campaign, then walking away with the satisfaction of having murdered the trend.

You can talk about much older dudes who go after 18 year-olds being creepy without rolling out pseudoscientific frontal lobe bullshit that's been tailormade to allow parents to control their adult children well into their 20s.

I think it pairs really nicely with pistachio but my personal nope is LAVENDER food. I’ve had it done well once or twice but mostly you get a custard or a latte that tastes like soap. I like lavender in soap! But not in my food.

Years ago, a writer friend was passing through on tour. I didn't know him that well, but I liked what I knew of him - and when he suggested that I join him (and the other writer touring with them) to hang and sign stock, I said "Sure, let's do it." So the three of us spent a day doing that. (1)

It’s so funny to me how biblical literalists immediately understand metaphor and historical context the second they hit the New Testament. Like yeah bud I know that the needle’s eye was the name of a real gate, in order to fit a camel through it you needed to unload its pack. Not a subtle metaphor.

Today’s small pleasure is that even though my nails are pathetically short & not worth spending the money on a pro manicure, thanks to my son having bought a UV light for resin work, I was able to put my favorite gel color on them anyway! I’m happier when my hair is purple-black & nails pearl pink.

On this day in 1908, Jane Bolin was born. Bolin, America’s first black woman judge, said this about women’s rights in 1958: “Those gains we have made were never graciously and generously granted. We have to fight every inch of the way — in the face of sometimes insufferable humiliations.”

Anyway if they want to throw Swalwell in the hoosegow I will defend his right to that standard in a court of law. But I don't need that level of stringent vetting to decide he's a bag of shit that should be thrown out of politics (rhetorically).

There's an important bit of journalism ethics here: do your best to minimize harm. This means taking a trauma-informed approach, not rushing the story and shoving survivors into the worst, period, hell, period before they're ready, and it means getting it right the FIRST time, not later

good people of Bluesky I just want to say, as a cleaner/declutterer don’t fret about being judged because the worse a mess is? The more satisfying it is to clean. There is no big sense of accomplishment running a duster and a vacuum and a mop over an already tidy house bad messes are more fun

my best guess is that a Trumpian Pentagon official, high on his own supply as they all are, thought "get your boss to play ball or we will do an Avignon on him" would genuinely intimidate AN 80-YEAR-OLD CARDINAL FROM FRANCE, which is perhaps the funniest thing anyone has ever done at the Pentagon

now I can KIND OF see how, if you're the French crown, and you're like "we put this guy in the Chair of Saint Peter, we own his ass," you might feel perfectly entitled to summon him for meetings and kick him around but it's WILD for the Pentagon to treat Pope Leo like they have that right
