My patient was feeling a bit down about their new COPD diagnosis so I told them to do all the usual things: inhalers, pulm rehab, quit smoking, suggested they see the great clown Pagliacci and YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED NEXT

It just doesn’t sit right with me that some recipes specifically say that you can’t use all purpose flour. Like somebody’s wrong here.

I think ChatGPT is useful for a lot of really cool stuff and has plenty of practical applications. Getting accurate, reliable information on various topics is definitely not included in my cool stuff and practical applications. But I guess it’s just a core issue with language learning models 🤷🏽‍♂️

im pretty good at communicating with the ignorant when they just don’t know or understand. i work with an organ that is not intuitive at all but if someone is trying, i can usually modify my language to help get them there. what im not good at is confronting straight up misinformation. no luck there

Not that this kind of thing has ever mattered to these people but the highest quality evidence we have is that you can provide intensive lifestyle interventions and follow patients for almost a DECADE and still fail to detect a mortality benefit. www.nejm.org/doi/full/10....

Also, decades of gold-standard research have shown no benefit for piecemeal interventions like cooking classes for obesity or any other biological parameter. It's always telling which data the "evidence-based medicine" people ignore.

Hey NYT, this is statistical erasure!

This reflects a deficit in how we are trained to read the scientific literature. We always focus on how to interpret a single study. Every journal club everywhere = 1 article. We rarely discuss how to integrate multiple divergent articles (which can actually be a lot harder).

Maybe it’s my own naïveté having started medical training in the mid/late 2010’s, but was debate/interpretation of medical, epidemiological, and healthcare economic studies always as flagrantly politically biased as it has been post-2020? Or did the pandemic break our brains? It feels different now.

I am not a lawyer but I have read HB 481 and it is extremely not clear to me that the hospital or its physicians are obliged by it to maintain life support. They are probably afraid of prosecution, which is a different standard all together, but not a good reason to torture this poor woman's family.
