Last Friday, our members voted unanimously to leave the NW Oregon Labor Council if the Portland Police Association is affirmed as an affiliate by delegates. We will not pay dues to an organization that fights against police accountability measures and supports efforts to intimidate city councilors.

For those who don't know, there is a battle over whether or not the Portland Police Association (PPA) will be allowed to join the Northwest Oregon Labor Council, the large regional labor coalition. They were invited summarily by a leader and are being supported by unions who pay for votes. 🧵

This question was settled a long time ago, and the answer is a resounding, but uncompromising no. This isn’t about a “big tent.” This is about not letting in the people trying to burn down the tent.

When leaders at the Northwest Oregon Labor Council voted to allow the Portland police union to join their ranks, it prompted a sizable controversy among labor and police accountability advocates. The council will now take a wider vote on the issue at the end of the month.

This is bad. Dude has ties to Fuentes, Proud Boys, Patriot Prayer, and 1st Amendment Praetorian. Basically a list of the groups that got into the most street fights with those who opposed Trump in his first term.

The police union’s admittance is now in question after labor critics took issue with it.

Street Roots' board of directors notified the NLRB that it will not voluntarily recognize the Street Roots Workers Guild on Dec. 9, and violated federal labor law by failing to post notice of our election by the end of the day yesterday. 1/

Street Roots' board did not meet our 5 pm deadline for voluntary recognition, but we are ready to work with them any time they are ready. CWA 7901 sent our petition documents to the NLRB today, but we will rescind it if the board recognizes our union voluntarily.  Thank you for your support!
