The vast majority of trauma survivors I've ever met don't want anything "special." They want the opportunity to find out who they are without the ghosts of their past polluting their thoughts, beliefs, & decisions-- autonomy that the normies take for granted. No more; no less.

Remember today you are allowed to change your mind, you are allowed to change your priorities, you are allowed to set new standards or boundaries. Your safety & stability-- your recovery-- going forward are more important than ANY past decision that no longer fits or serves you.

This is hard. Big cat aficionados can’t always immediately tell whether a spotted cat is a leopard or a jaguar. This isn’t that: here in Ontario—where cougars were extirpated—our Ministry of Natural Resources receives an insane number of “cougar” sightings. (Spoiler: it’s always a domestic cat. 🤦)

you actually don't need to have affective empathy to be a good person. if you don't feel sad when other people feel sad or whatever, that doesn't make you a monster. it's your behavior and how you choose to treat others that decides your character. not the presence or absence of emotions.

marketing/claiming yourself to be "ethical" without context is manipulative nonsense given there are no universal ethics. you are rhetorically begging me to project my personal ethics onto you without demonstrating you share them. you need to assert your actual values to have it mean anything.

It should not be as niche as it is, but I keep having to repeat it: If your values don't apply to *everyone,* they're not actually your values. They are simply a favor that you do for people that you like.

People should talk more about the macro foundations of their serious ethical stances, whether niche or otherwise.
