I was still dealing with unemployment back then so I kept it simple. That just made me realize I’ve been simplifying my birthday ever since. Like I’m still afraid I’m gonna be in those circumstances again. Sigh. Another facet of survival mode to unlearn.

Got pink and purple braids in my hair. I had a weekend staycation. Got a hotel room for myself and relaxed. All my friends were long distance so I had two birthday Zoom calls with them.
