Reading a book on coming to terms with grief about your body and the concept of disability is only mentioned three times in the entire book. Feels like such a missed opportunity. Some really useful stuff in the book but I keep thinking, yes/and disability identity would be helpful here!

We are way too quick to ascribe students with a "lack of motivation." It takes much less vulnerability to say "I don't wanna" than it does to say "I don't actually understand this" or "I don't know how to do this" or "I am just trying to make it through the day."

The problem is many of us don't see a lack of racism as an access need for Black people.

By the way, the way some white disabled people are responding to this thread by acting as if the N word isn't itself a disability issue for Black people is a great case in point of how it is taken as a given that Black people must simply tolerate everyday racism as the price of being in public

A skill that will make you much better at life: the ability to sit with the discomfort that two opposing things can be true at the same time. Both/and. Not everything can be boiled down to a "take." Some things are just truly nuanced.
