London has reached a watershed moment in its long-running battle with air pollution: for the first time in decades, evidence suggests that all Londoners are now breathing cleaner air, thanks largely to the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). www.mylondon.news/news/south-l...

The results show that the policy is having a marked effect: transport emissions are falling, vehicle fleets are becoming cleaner, and the air quality benefits are being felt even in outer boroughs.

The gains also have wider public health and social justice implications. Communities in more deprived areas, who have long borne the brunt of poor air quality, are now among those experiencing the greatest improvements.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.
