One of the hardest lessons I learned early on in my career is professional loyalties mean nothing to companies. It doesn't matter how much of yourself you give to a project, they care about their bottom line and what else that gets them. Having firm boundaries with work is a healthy work ethic.

Placeholder assets in a game should look obnoxiously temporary, so obvious that no one would mistake it for the final asset. In past games we've used the doge dog (rip) as an icon, hot pink versions of characters, our CEO's head, etc. If you use a temp asset that seems passable, it may stay there.
