If you like Bluesky to follow the news, but you don't love the overwhelm of the feed, I recommend sill.social! It's basically Nuzzle from the Twitter days. You sign in with your Bsky account and it creates a news feed of articles/stories/links being discussed #onhere. I visit more than Bluesky.

Since I'm getting questions about it, has anyone heard when we're getting official OAuth scopes and how to migrate existing connections? The list of permissions Sill requests using transition:generic is (rightfully, imo!) scaring people off.

When I worked in newsrooms, I found it frustrating that tracking projects that newsroom devs like me tended to work on were hard to promote. Social networks downranked repeated links. Newsroom CMSes are designed for newness above all. Editorial processes were built around these constraints.

The lack of mainstream coverage of regular huge protests reminds me of a talk from a Twitter employees who explained that they had to drop BLM off the Trending Tags section because otherwise it would have been there permanently. The modern media environment has no appetite for sustained movements.

I've been pretty neutral in the ATProto vs. ActivityPub debates because I legitimately think the best possible outcome is they both exist and thrive. But the ActivityPub guys showing their whole asses today is making me rethink that stance.

So much has been happening in this space! I have extreme imposter syndrome being here, especially while I'm not shipping much at the moment. Immigration is hard, and it's doubly hard when you're moving an existing product to a company in that new country. Soon!

Earlier today, @laurenshof.online mentioned how apps that should interoperate aren't because they're using different lexicons. It's a topic that's been bothering me for a while, so I used the opportunity to brain-dump into a @leaflet.pub post, and then I ended up giving myself some homework.

I was flippant about this but Daniel is right that the amount of data OpenAI has access to on bsky.app has increased. But you can use a third-party client. Want this website without the analytics tool? deer.social. Want an iOS app? @skeetsapp.com. Deck-style client? deck.blue. Plenty of others.

The whole network is public? OpenAI already has it.
