The real reason Star Fox lays dormant is because it's a niche property that primarily exists to show off tech/gimmicks and there probably just isn't anyone to advocate for a new game. Imamura retired in 2021 and Miyamoto's been busy working on the theme park/movie stuff.

It's funny and sad that Assault kinda suffers the same problem Adventures has in that it was clearly something else that ended up being torn to shreds and haphazardly bashed together as its development raced against a doomsday clock to get something out the door.

Ultimately none of the endings in Command are considered "canon" because how the game (and by proxy, Fox's story as a whole) ends is up for the player to decide. Some parting words from Takaya Imamura, the creator of Fox McCloud and the Star Fox world and funny enough the writer for Command:

You know I love 90s Rare, but tbh there's an interesting point that their output at the time did kinda have a little bit of colonialism and orientalism, and SF Adventures kinda suffers from that too. Just ask the Banjo shamans and the LightFoot tribe lol

I’ve been playing a lot of Zoo Tycoon and Roller Coaster Tycoon lately, feeling a wistful sense of nostalgia for afternoons spent making dinosaur-themed zoos and rides. I love new games in the genre but they’ll never feel quite so special as these ones did.

I will say, I do think Lucy's pretty cool, she's the only one of his that at least isn't a love interest but I suppose one could still dismiss her as just being Peppy's daughter, but...

It's something Krystal gets ragged on obviously because she's pushed as a much bigger deal whenever she shows up (also the extra baggage of being a "canon foreigner") but I do think there is something to be said that the only female pilot in SF64...is the pink colored cat who flirts with the guys.

I definitely don't want to call Imamura a misogynist because he can definitely make good strong female characters as shown in F-Zero, but yeah, it IS unfortunate how so many of his female characters in Star Fox can be boiled down to "this Star Fox team member's ______ (love interest, child, etc)

More accurate to say "writer" because in this case, we know the man behind that game's narratives and endings: Takaya Imamura, the same man who created Fox McCloud and the Star Fox universe and cast to begin with.

You can read said comic here: drive.google.com/drive/folder... It's meant to function as a canonical interlude between SF64 and SF Adventures but it largely also functions pretty well as an epilogue to the former game's story.

One teeny little problem with that: Rare was never forced into that and they willingly jumped onto the SFA deal because they knew that Dinosaur Planet was going to struggle as an ambitious late stage original N64 IP especially with the GCN onto the horizon: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO7o...

Pretty amazing that it worked as well as it did, especially when you consider that Nintendo over the years seemingly tried to "replace" K. Rool and Kremlings with their own original characters made from the ground up for the DK brand...and yet none of them struck a chord the way K. Rool did.

You may know this by now but Rare's original pitch was having Wario be the villain of "Super Wario vs. Donkey Kong", it was Nintendo who instead told them to come up with their own original villains and from there Rare reused the Kremling designs from Jonny Blastoff and went from there.

This is somewhat off topic but the "he was designed to oppose a gorilla in a necktie" bit is kinda funny in that he was technically already designed for something else being recycled for DKC: Jonny Blastoff and the Kremling Armada. www.unseen64.net/2017/12/27/j...
