Their surf-punk vibe is really strong here too. The more twangy guitar compared to the more hardcore riffs of Surfer Rosa. Norton added a lot of reverb to it but I think it feels really good. Here Comes Your Man is a perfect encapsulation of this I think. Love that song. Their hits are very obvious.

Obviously on this album we've also got Wave of Mutilation, Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Hey. Lotta enduring bangers here. Kim Deal's vocals are more present as well and I'm thankful for that, her voice lends a LOT to every track it's present in. La La Love You is hugely underrated.

THE PIXIES - DOOLITTLE: Norton's production of this album makes their sound feel a little bit more washed out but it's still very present. Black Francis' surrealist lyrics really hitting HARD in this album. Opening with Debaser, a song inspired by Un Chien Andalou, was a really good call. It rips.

Where Is My Mind gives the album a little bit of whiplash, truth be told. It REALLY stands out as this slower, more melancholic song. The rest of the album feels so energetic, fun, and loud by comparison. I still really love it though, I see why it was their really big hit. More commercial for sure.

Notable tracks on this album are Bone Machine, Tony's Theme, Broken Face, Cactus, and obviously Where Is My Mind. As is apparently typical of an Albini-produced album, it feels very raw. Very true to their sound. Santiago's guitar goes fucking crazy.

THE PIXIES - SURFER ROSA: Another Albini-produced banger. Theoretically I should've listened to this prior to Nirvana's Bleach considering how much inspiration Kurt Cobain took from Black Francis, but whatever! Banger album! Amazing that Where Is My Mind is on their DEBUT ALBUM, to be quite honest.

Going forward I'm going to try to listen to the full discographies of bands I like, ones I admire, ones I want to get more into. Starting with Nirvana because I've always respected the impact they left on music. I can see why that is. They tap into a lot of emotion here. It feels amazing.

NIRVANA - BLEACH: This album feels very raw. Discordant. Chaotic. The bass really reverberates in your skull, the drums are captivating, the wailing and screeching of the guitar cuts to the bone, but Kurt's voice brings each song into perfect clarity. What an outstanding vocalist, even this early.
