When I say "how local news can work", I don't just mean profitability. I also mean how it can reach people. We really need to rethink how journalism is performed at the local level. Too many rich people just try to make the newspaper again.

We need many, many small experiments to figure out how local news can work in today's environment. As we saw with Houston Landing (www.niemanlab.org/2025/07/what...), you can't just make a splashy citywide org anymore. So give it to @tinynewscollective.bsky.social, who are designed to do this.
