~45 minutes outside Minneapolis this afternoon, a small but spirited crowd is gathered to protest outside the gates of Sherburne County Jail. According to organizers: the jail has held an average of 131 ICE detainees daily for nearly 20 years. As of 2023, the jail makes $110 per detainee per day.

We obtained the Dilley detention center’s 911 call logs. Among them are pleas for help for toddlers having trouble breathing, a pregnant woman who passed out and an elementary-school-aged girl having seizures.

I did read the law and project this, but as it's coming to pass I find myself still capable of being shocked at how far the country I grew up in has fallen. It is not a free country if a person can drive to work and be arrested for being transgender and having once legally changed their documents.
