In actuality, Keith hid $21 million dollars from the council and lied a bunch in a newsletter to get NW Portland neighborhood people irrationally angry

Seattle and Portland folks we have got to figure out a solution to the Mayor Wilsons thing or this will keep being very confusing also I don't want ours to get any credit accidentally in anyone's mind for doing something cool the other one did.

Good morning! I’m currently at Beaverton High School in OR where a mass student walk out has just started to demand a proactive ICE protocol for their school and district. Students say that similar walkouts were planned at multiple other high schools, including Aloha, Sunset, Southridge & more.

It is crazy to me how many empty lots there are in the city. Dare to Dream 2 is probably the most infuriating one bc of the history there but they are everywhere. there should be insane fees for squatting on empty lots in the city. I'd double that shit every year until they sold it or did something.

The rake that every pundit and poster steps on (and I am guilty of this too) is the implied presumption that every political decision is necessarily undergirded by deep political values or beliefs rather than Vibes based on the 3 most recent semi-relevant things they interacted with

Sweeps do actually kill people. I watched it happen to houseless neighbors of mine. 5 years our neighborhood had zero issues. Each sweep they became more and more worn down. Homeless Deaths Quadrupled — ProPublica

Portland Said It Was Investing in Homeless People’s Safety. Deaths Have Quadrupled.
The city responded to an increase in homeless deaths by intensifying encampment sweeps and adding emergency shelter at the expense of permanent housing. Experts say this has perpetuated the problem.

Mayor ghosts city council because he doesn't want anyone to challenge his big "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" PR victory lap in local papers after claiming he's fixed homelessness in Portland. Seems a lot like Mayor Wilson just doesn't like his ideas or claims being challenged.

really interesting and suspicious choice given the recent revelations of admin hiding knowledge of $21 million in housing money from the council before the budget adjustment and the still unexplained firing of the housing bureau director.

Portland City Council will meet today to discuss the "Homelessness to Housing Continuum." The original idea was for it to be a venue for Mayor Wilson to talk about his homelessness plan. But per Wilson's office, it's not certain he'll show up. (And bureau staff have been advised not to attend.)

I'm sure this framing was not intentional but it is incredibly telling about the ways people view houselessness and addiction and the people it happens to

LONG RAMBLING EMOTIONAL THREAD: It's World AIDS Day. Since the Administration has decided to keep it quiet, I'd like to share my introduction to AIDS. I grew up in Seattle. My mom remarried a man who had a brother who was a King County Sheriff's Deputy. His name was Terry and he was gay. 1/x

Exhibit one million in why IP law does not protect individual creators but is more often than not a cudgel used against them used to stymie creative works. It does not exist to protect creators; it exists to protect owners.

tbh I always forget this holiday is coming. when I was living in a dorm I didn't know they kicked everyone out for the whole holiday and had to beg a friend to let me stay in his apt while he was at his family's place in another city. think I had a gas station hot dog for dinner that year.

never had a family that wanted me over for Thanksgiving even when I was young so this is always a weird and uncomfortable holiday for me. I've always been the odd one out. that said I've got game hens in the fridge brining bc people (my wife) still expect me to cook. so we'll see how it goes.

LRT but the best answer is also the most difficult and expensive answer, which is decentralization. you used to go to a company or dev's website to get that company or dev's stuff, not a centralized repository where everyone puts things. that model has drawbacks and censorship is one of them.

I keep having to unfortunately remind myself that Valve, as a private company, still sucks ass due to the monopoly they hold on the PC gaming market. Like no storefront or company should ever have the authority to outright ban the sale of games due to the content within them.

I have a stance of "transit needs to be good enough that I want to ride it constantly instead of driving" Which never includes the idea of having more cops or getting rid of 'undesirable people' because that makes me want to ride it less.
