youâre right! it feels mostly awful to Go Onlineâą, these days. the internet in a sad state, for reason after reason after reason. but there is a way to fix it; to trade the voidful howling for a quiet & joyful song. hereâs how to win the war for the soul of the internet, and build the Web We Want.

It was fun to present this at the recent Strong Towns Carmel monthly meeting! I really think ADUs could be one (of many) small zoning changes the city makes to enable more missing middle housing.

We need to tax wealth not work. Why? Because usually no matter how hard you work, the compound interest on huge wealth grows much faster than your wages + the rich use this passive income to buy all the assets. Someone made a game to show this:

Critics who donât live here dismiss Carmel Indiana as a performative suburb for the rich. That view ignores the reality. This city is actively investing in walkability, bikeability, and denser land use, steps most suburbs wonât even attempt. Itâs not perfect, but itâs real progress.

A city nearby my own (within biking distance) is proposing a 10% cap on single-family rentals. While they claim to be targeting investors, the ordinance would be a blanket ban on all single-family rentals. This will stop

incremental development from ever happening in this city.

I can barely afford a house in my city. The people we depend on to cook and serve our food, teach our children, fight our fires, and more are struggling more than me. Carmel, like most cities in America, needs to make changes to solve this. I wrote about it here:
