This is a fantastic thread on the making of The Empire Strikes Back. I remember watching this at the cinema in East Grinstead on its UK release.

's excellent repair-a-thon video, I'm happy to report I've finally got this 1531 working again. New belts, bit of WD-40 and cleaning an unbelievable amount of filth off the pinch roller. Should be good for a few years now.

A goldmine of computer gossip in 7.5 minutes. The Source and CompuServ fleecing the world, Jack Tramiel flogging defective 20 MB hard drives as working 15 MB hard drives, and Sinclair pissing off QL owners. Again.

Just read the sad news that Commodore engineer Hedley Davis has died. I always remembered his name courtesy of The Deathbed Vigil. The silly “Memorial Disk Drive” summed up what it was like to work in IT in the 80s & 90s. Passionate people who really gave a monkeys about what they were making. RIP

Might play some JetSet Willy today. Had a copy of this on the ZX Spectrum BITD (on a Microdrive!) Having watched this video, I think the Speccy and MSX versions are the best. It's surprising how many ports had bugs making them uncompletable.

Has anyone replaced the belts on a Commodore 1531 datasette? I've changed the belt but had to loosen the two screws at [2]. When I tightened them the eject button [1] stopped working. Something is stopping the metal bar from pushing the eject [1] all the way back. Any ideas?

I'm sure manufacturing a lead for the TED computers that was incompatible with the 65xx computers made perfect sense to Commodore, but the logic escapes me. I guess they never thought they'd have to ship it with a few hundred thousand C64s.
