Deep-dive #C64 question: keyboard scanning. Starting at the hardware end we've got cia ports that are read 8 times to determine which key is read. Fine. Looking at the kernal routines there's getin that pulls a petsci value out the buffer. Fine. How / where does the key map turn into a chr no.?

I had a tip-off from the @morefunmakingit.bsky.social discord channel (definitely stop by there if this is your kinda thing) that a good fix on these alps keys is just to rotate the cup. You can see it's only making contact at two points, so that's, like, 358 degrees of fresh surface still unsullied

Nearing completion of the HB-F1 resto. Bought not working. Now have reliable boot, new keyboard membrane, (+ silver paint on the X key for good measure). New RGB lead made up at great personal expense to my sanity. Relented and swapped in a DC barrel jack. PS: All computers should have a pause key

So it's a bit extremely how-do-they-do-it very thin, but some tape on the connector has solved the only problem there. But otherwise mechanically and functionally, it's a full pass. I have recreated the Sony hb-f1 keyboard membrane. 😍😍😍
