A to Z My Fave ‘A’ Games – No.21 Arcade Classics Four classic arcade games for less than £2? Yes please. Solid versions of Asteroids, Snake, Space Wars and Space Invaders made this C64 title a bargain must-buy. Worth it for the outstanding Rob Hubbard theme tune alone.

A to Z My Fave ‘A’ Games No 22 Automania The first of 5 Wally Week games, Automania introduced players to Mikro-Gen’s hapless everyman & launched one of the 80s’ most beloved series. Graphics & sound are basic, and it's rock hard, but it offers a good burst of quirky, platforming fun.

A to Z My Fave ‘A’ Games No.25 Army Moves With nice graphics and music, this Moon Patrol, Blue Thunder & Green Beret mash-up has lots going for it. Unfortunately, the stupidly hard gameplay spoils things. A shame. It could’ve been a top title if they’d dialled down the difficulty.

A to Z My Fave ‘A’ Games No.26 Astro Chase Very well presented with a cool intro/outro, nice graphics, decent music, and fast multidirectional scrolling, Astro Chase was pretty darn impressive in 1984. Under the gloss, it’s a simple space shooter, but it’s still good fun for a while.

A to Z My Fave ‘A’ Games – No.27 Amazon Warrior/Arcana Geoff Sumner only made two C64 games—and both were shameless rip-offs. Amazon Warrior stole from Forbidden Forest, while Arcana copied Entombed & Staff of Karnath. How New Generation ever got away with publishing them is beyond me!

A to Z My Fave ‘A’ Games – No.28 (The) Adventures of Basildon Bond One of many terrible 80s TV tie-ins (who thought a Russ Abbott game was a good idea?!) TAOBB is a poor Impossible Mission clone with crap graphics and dull gameplay. It is to computer games what ‘Atmosphere’ is to music.

My Fave ‘A’ Games – No. 29 Arcadia 64 Imagine’s early zapper is initially intriguing as it's fast and frantic, but enjoyment quickly evaporates as the gameplay is super repetitive and ridiculously hard. It's also glitchy and flickery, and the controls are very poor. Nice artwork, though!

A to Z My Fave ‘A’ Games – No. 30 Automan Bug Byte’s game of the 80s TV show was a big disappointment. Part second-rate Manic Miner clone, part painfully slow 3D racer, it has poor graphics, dire sound and abysmal gameplay. Less Automan, more Auto-meh.

Football Games No.2 International Soccer The C64’s killer app, International Soccer blew me away in ‘83. Once I’d seen it, I had to get a C64! No loading times, colourful, chunky sprites & packed with instant, addictive, footy brilliance, it was pure childhood joy. An all-time classic.

Football Games No.5 Match Day 2 The rather Marmite Match Day 2 is undeniably slow (it’s more strategic than fast-paced footy action) but it's still a highly enjoyable experience; and building a well-worked move up the pitch then smashing the ball home is wonderfully rewarding.
