A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.25 Big Mac The Mad Maintenance Man Not a McDonald’s licence game, but a very playable platformer. The graphics and sound are simple, but the level design is solid and the gameplay is instantly addictive. A cracking early budget release from Mastertronic.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games No.26 Bounder 2 (Re-Bounder) Featuring sharper visuals, multi-directional scrolling, added blasting elements and more forgiving gameplay, Re-Bounder expands on the excellent original in all the right ways. If you loved Bounder, you’re bound to love the sequel!

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.27 Bobby Bearing Like Arkanoid, Marble Madness spawned numerous home computer clones, and with clever level design and atmospheric exploration-rescue-and-puzzle gameplay, Bobby Bearing (despite the lack of sound and monochrome graphics) is pretty good.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.28 Batty A wave of Arkanoid clones swept across the C64 scene in the 80s. While Batty may lack originality, its excellent 2-player co-op gameplay more than makes up for it, cementing its place as one of the most playable & enjoyable examples of the genre.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.29 BC2: Grog’s Revenge BD2GR takes the original game & expands it into a collect-’em-up adventure as Thor hunts for the meaning of life across rugged mountains & dark caves. Excellent cartoon-style graphics & engaging gameplay make for an enjoyable title.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games No.30 Bangkok Knights System 3's B.K. was stunning in 1987, boasting huge, well-animated sprites, cool backdrops & an outstanding Rob Hubbard soundtrack. Sadly, its shallow gameplay lets it down, leaving it technically impressive but short on long-term appeal.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.31 Booga-Boo (The Flea) I have a soft spot for this as it was one of the first games I played on the C64. A neat concept with tough yet addictive gameplay and nice graphics, it’s challenging but captures that ‘one-more-go’ gameplay very effectively.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.32 Bomb Jack 2 BJ2 (oo-er!) is a quirky sequel that swaps the bomb-collecting arcade gameplay of Bomb Jack for more of a platformer/beat 'em up hybrid. With nice music and animation, and better gameplay than C64 Bomb Jack, it’s a pretty decent title.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games No.33 BMX Kidz Inspired by Excitebike on the NES, BMX Kidz swaps motorcycles & dirt tracks for BMXs & urban stunt courses. With tidy graphics, a superb Hubbard soundtrack & plenty of playability, it’s highly enjoyable - especially when played against a friend.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games No.34 Blasteroids 10 years after Atari’s original vector graphic classic hit the arcades, this sexed-up sequel arrived on 8 & 16-bit home computers. The C64 version's graphics & sound are solid, and while it lacks longevity, it’s a good blast for an hour or so.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.35 Bomb Jack Although it’s nowhere near as good as the arcade original, C64 Bomb Jack is certainly enjoyable. While the squashed-up play area is a bit of a letdown, the graphics are colourful, the music is great and it’s immediately addictive.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.36 Battle Through Time This Moon-Patrol-inspired-shooter-with-a time-travelling-twist is pretty impressive for 1984. With nice graphics, music & sound effects and challenging but highly playable gameplay, it’s one of the best games of its kind on the C64.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.38 Beyond the Ice Palace This Ghosts N’ Goblins-inspired platformer from Elite has decent graphics, good tunes & is instantly playable. Unfortunately, it’s way too difficult, turning what could’ve been a very good game into an ultimately frustrating one.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.40 Black Thunder Borrowing heavily from Loco & Suicide Express, Black Thunder is technically impressive (fast scrolling, split-screen action & great sound) but the gameplay is far too difficult, and ultimately it feels like a case of ‘seen it all before’.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.41 Bombo Coded by Mark Greenshields (Split Personalities) this Bomb Jack clone has brilliant music & colourful graphics, and while it was overpriced on release (it feels more like a budget game than a full-price release), it’s rather enjoyable for a while.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games No.42 Blagger This Manic Miner clone, coded by a 17-year-old Tony Crowther, is a pretty solid derivative of Matthew Smith’s Spectrum classic. Graphics and sound are basic but the pixel-perfect platforming action is immediately addictive.

A-Z My Fave 'B' Games No.43 Bazooka Bill The big, bold, colourful yet rudimentary graphics have a certain charm, and the sound isn’t too bad either, but Bazooka Bill's basic, repetitive gameplay lets it down. A kind of pound-shop Green Beret for very young gamers.

A-Z My Fave 'B' Games - No.44 Booty 🏴☠️ Jim the cabin boy must collect treasure across 20 holds of a pirate ship while dodging rats, parrots and pirates. A simple budget platformer with basic graphics and sound and just about enough playability for the £1.99 asking price.

A-Z My Fave 'B' Games - No.45 Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom One of the C64’s earliest arcade conversions (1983), BRPOZ is a bog-standard version of the Sega original. The 3D effect is pretty good for ’83, but the graphics are blocky, the sound is weak and the gameplay is very repetitive.
