Two Player Games – No.24 Druid After Gauntlet hit the 80s 8-bit computer scene, a flood of similar games followed, and Druid is one of the best. Colourful, instantly playable and full of charm, it’s a cracking fantasy action game — especially when tackled in two-player mode.

Two Player Games – No.25 Trailblazer Part Pitstop II, part Bounder, Trailblazer is a blisteringly fast split-screen futuristic racer. Simple, slick and seriously addictive, it really comes alive in head-to-head mode. A brilliant two-player blast.

Two Player Games – No.26 Ballblazer A Lucasfilm future-sport classic and a technical marvel in 1985. With its fast, fluid 3D, split-screen action and banging soundtrack, Ballblazer feels instantly exciting. Original, addictive and enormous fun when played head-to-head.

Two Player Games – No.27 Rally Speedway An absolute blast in two-player mode, Rally Speedway's head-to-head racing is brilliant fun, with plenty of crashes, chaos and last-second wins. Add in the track editor, humorous touches and sandbox-style gameplay, and it’s a real C64 gem.

Two Player Games - No.28 Kik Start Inspired by the popular 80s TV show, this head-to-head motorbike racer can be tricky to master, but the satisfaction of completing a course is immense and crossing the finish line a millisecond before your mate is pure C64 two-player joy.

Two Player Games – No.29 The Goonies The classic 80s adventure movie was turned into a fine computer game that’s atmospheric and highly playable. Graphics and sound are average, but the puzzles are well-designed and the 2-player co-op gameplay is excellent.

Two Player Games – No.31 BMX Simulator A mega-seller in the mid-80s, BMX Simulator is basically Super Sprint on bikes. Simple, fast and great fun with mates, it’s a brilliant little budget racer — and that action replay feature felt seriously cool at the time.

Two Player Games – No.35 Match Day 2 Packed with features, MD2 is a comprehensive football title. Its relatively complex controls make it harder to get into than most footy games, but it's great fun when it clicks. Only its slow-motion speed prevents it from being a C64 classic.

Two Player Games – No.37 Zybex An superb Side Arms-style shooter, Zybex is a brilliant budget blaster. Great graphics, slick simultaneous 2-player action, cool power-ups and 16 addictive, challenging levels made it outstanding value at £2.99 BITD.

Two Player Games – No.38 Super Off Road Racer Super Sprint meets Racing Destruction Set in Graftgold’s excellent conversion of the 80s arcade original. With jumps, water hazards and plenty of crash-and-smash action, it’s fantastic 2-player, and even 3-player, fun.

Two Player Games – No.41 Fight Night Big, brilliantly animated sprites, loads of humour and a 'build-your-own-boxer-construction-kit' make Fight Night stand out from most C64 boxing titles. The simple gameplay hampers its lastability, but a 2-player punch-up with a mate is fun.

Two Player Games – No.42 Hypa-ball A brilliant concept (a futuristic sport with jetpacks, a floating metal ball & a constantly shifting goal), Hypa-ball is simple, fast & great fun against a mate. A bit limited as a one-player experience, but as a 2-player contest, it’s a belter.

Two Player Games No.43 Super Bowl XX Despite naff graphics and a woeful 1-player mode (the computer is laughably easy to beat), Super Bowl really shines as a 2-player game. Against a friend, it’s tense, competitive & great fun, with each drive a battle of strategy and reactions.

Two Player Games – No.44 Match Point Despite its naff graphics and sound, Match Point is a cracking tennis game. It’s easy to pick up and play, and the two-player mode is fantastic fun, and smashing a winner past your mate at the end of a rally is hugely satisfying. 🎾

- and a decent effort too. It takes a while to get to grips with the moves (ahem), but once you do the 2-player bouts are great fun. Perfect for throwing your mate around the gaff without risking a trip to A&E. 🥋

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.11 Beyond the Forbidden Forest Following a legend ain't easy, but Paul Norman rose to the challenge. Not quite matching the original, yet boasting suitably ghoulish graphics, spooky sound and absorbing, atmospheric gameplay, it remains a superb effort.

It was Paradroid`s 40th anniversary last Autumn, and already we are approaching Uridium`s 40th anniversary. I was always chasing arcade quality, and the mindset of the time was to see how far you could get, and have an exciting time doing it.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games No.12 Bounder This novel twist on the platformer is challenging but highly addictive. Brilliantly original, with excellent graphics and compulsive gameplay, it's a cracking title that earned Gremlin their only ZZAP! Gold Medal, scoring 97% back in January 1986.

My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.15 BMX Simulator Loads of BMX games hit the C64 in the 80s, and most of them were pants. But BMX Simulator—essentially Super Sprint on bikes— bucked (bunnyhopped?) the trend. Fantastic fun, especially when played with a mate, and also amazing value, at just £1.99.

My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.16 Bounty Bob With blocky graphics and naff sound, Bob hardly makes a strong first impression, but what it lacks up front it more than makes up for in gameplay. Brilliantly designed, ultra-playable, and let's not forget one of the best high-score tables ever made!

My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.17 Beach-Head The first of many cracking titles from the Carver brothers, Beach-Head’s excellent graphics & innovative mini-game structure set it head and shoulders above its 1983 contemporaries. Tense, compulsive and great fun, it's a genuine landmark game for the C64.

Welcome to February ... 1988! 38 years ago this month, Ocean released Platoon. An excellent title, made up of mini-games based on scenes from the film, it was a critical & commercial hit for Ocean & signalled a major improvement in the quality of tie-in titles from the Manchester software house.

A-Z My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.20 Blackwyche Blackwyche casts Sir Arthur Pendragon adrift on a cursed, multi-deck galleon, mixing arcade adventure action with puzzle-solving and a satisfyingly spooky atmosphere. Very reminiscent of TSOK and Entombed, but still a highly enjoyable game.
