Lord knows I’m not a constitutional scholar not even a lawyer (and I’ve yet to check in with @kateshaw.bsky.social) but a legal regime in which “you can do crimes if you’re buddies with the president or praise him publicly” is *on its face* a violation the equal protection of the laws.

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

No one's blaming Democrats for causing this crisis, but yes, many of them are failing to meet this moment. One Democratic senator could bring the chamber to a halt. House Dems can go to fed agencies being gutted by Musk with cameras in tow. Governors can push back. State AGs can bring lawsuits.

This is a fascinating turn of events

Normalizing ignorance and imperialism — the American Way.

It just does not make sense that these people are treating the Trump presidency as hopes and wishes and not as conquest and authoritarian power.

The endless cycle of chaos and tragedy we’re having to endure is not normal. Don’t get used to this.

These people hate racial progress so much they’re willing to destroy the whole country to keep America white.

Those who refuse to deal with and change history are doomed to repeat and weaponize it.

when you have anti-DEI proponents openly going after black military officers for recruiting from HBCUs and suing schools for their black and Hispanic enrollment *even after the schools ended any racial preferences* then the only honest label for these people is "segregationist"

I genuinely think we should start calling businesses and schools falling to the anti-DEI movement “segregationists” because they are re-segregating. And earlier rounds of segregationists *also* explained their preferred policy in race-neutral terms (“state’s rights” and “freedom of association”).

John Fetterman telling Americans who are worried about the next Trump presidency to “chill out” is not just callous but shows his disconnect. It may not be a problem for him, but it is for millions of Americans. But sadly, white men like him sacrifice justice and care on the altar of privilege.

It’s sad that we live in a country where it’s easier to get guns than it is to get healthcare.
