Concentration camps are the defining issue in public health right now. Measles and TB outbreaks, healthcare being withheld as punishment for your race. It is not enough simply to turn the grants tap back on. To do so would make us the same as the Nazi scientists who discovered smoking causes cancer

Think about it like this. This ICE agent was on camera and unmasked — fulfilling one of three "demands" Democratic leader Chuck Schumer just issued in order to agree to save Republicans and give DHS even more money. And he was still threatening to kill someone.

There is no reforming DHS. There is no educating our way out of the white supremacy, criminality, and cruelty baked into DHS. Abolition of ICE, CBP, and the whole DHS is the only way to keep people safe.

I've been stewing on this question all week, and I finally have my answer: you've gotta figure out how you're gonna fight for what you love and what brings you joy. You've gotta be willing to put them on pause & fight to preserve the systems that make those things possible.

Real talk: our lab is at the cutting edge of tracking climate change-related deaths, and we have exactly $0 of external funding to do it. We're getting $0 from NIH and NSF for the next few years. If you're able to materially support our work, it keeps projects like HAL alive.
