Proportional representation means moderation is built right into the system because it is not just about how many votes you win, but where. It means governments need to represent a broad majority to stay in power, and no region can be ignored in favour of a few swing ridings.

This highlights the flaw of two-party systems: small factions can infiltrate a major party to exert outsized power with minority support. Proportional representation fixes this by requiring broad consensus for decisions, ensuring no single group wields disproportionate influence.
