Picked up The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman and I'm enjoying it immensely. Reminds me of TTRPGs in a good way. Fun MC. Its close to the flavour of Sword & Sorcery I'm aiming for with my current WIP, so it's a good study, too. 😌⚔️

Tech is making good progress, which is awesome, but we really need to start expropriating the obscenely rich – in practice, not just theory – for it to work in our favour. Just sayin'. And work should be reduced to 5 hours a day, 3 days a week or something.

Nice people are struggling over the revelations on Gaiman, and something I keep hearing is, 'His work had a big influence on how I shaped my own identity.' So here's something to remember: You did that. He didn't do it for you. 1/

What I learned from Gilgamesh so far: in ancient Mesopotamia, practically everything was made of lapis lazuli or carnelian – including people.

Currently reading the Sophus Helle translation of Gilgameš, and I gotta say – for all the ancient Babylonians' achievements in mathematics and such – are we sure they got this dude's measurements right? 🤔

Somehow my current short story project became a the middle of a full-fledged novel set in ancient Mesopotamia (mythology-inspired grimdark sword & sorcery)

Question for Welsh BSky people (@danhanly.com perhaps?): If I, as a German, wrote fantasy stories set in medieval Wales, taking liberties with the history of its people, like assuming the Britons never adopted Anglo-Saxon beliefs or Christianity, had remained Druidic etc., would you take offence?

It's impossible to touch a history book and not be inspired to go and fill the gaps, perhaps put your spin on it. I'm currently reading a book about the ancestry of Henry Tudor, and it seems I'll have to write a few sword and sorcery stories set in alt-history 13th century Wales.
