Today Microsoft moved all its GitHub copilot subscribers to token-based billing. If you want to see what happens when people have to pay the actual costs of AI, the day is finally here. It's obvious that every customer sees the deep, meaningful value and isn't angry at all.

The imperial core has gained $15 trillion through exorbitant privilege since 1970, getting higher returns on foreign assets than what they pay on foreign debt. This privilege is financed by transfers from the global South, outstripping aid flows many times over.

This, from Lorna Finlayson, expresses my view on universities better than I ever have myself. The process is farther along in Britain than elsewhere, but something of this trend is visible in too many places.

And one element of specifically female tech literacy is being very well aware that when new software fails to deliver what's been promised to senior management happy to swallow the hype, women will be immediately blamed for 'operator error' far more than men.

Juro que cada mes que passo en la meva feina perdo coefficient crític, polític, i artístic. T'encadenen la capacitat cognitiva a les seves fins mercantils, i aquest desgast no et deixa fer més.

I genuinely feel sick. A company reached out to me on IG, linking me to an AI version of myself. You can even ask "me" questions. They are also advertising it using an AI photo of me. They told me if I like it, they will give me free access... to my own fucking content that they stole. /1

The Vatican could have told Anthropic to stop stealing data, exploiting labor, killing the environment, deceiving us with anthropomorphic designs & lying about product "capabilities." Instead they partnered with them, like partnering with Sackler family to discuss harms of oxy.

I'm as critical of 'AI' as the next person, and I also think that dismissing 'machines' in the work of 'discovering the truth' is a gross historical inaccuracy. It's so difficult not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, especially if you haven't a strong grip on the way this tech works.
