On the topic of mobile hologram emitters, my lukewarm take is that Arnold Rimmer's light bee on Red Dwarf was a much better execution of the concept than the Doctor's mobile emitter on Voyager.

My top 5 reads of 2025: #5 Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Robbins (1971) This is a book very much of its time, and there's some stuff in here that hasn't aged well. But overall an entertaining read. Robbins' style reminds me a bit of Vonnegut. Plot summary in alt text.

Watching Airport '77, which features the USS Cayuga (LST 1186) so I looked it up and it turns out after a 25 year service it was decommissioned and sold to Brazil. It served until 2023 as NDCC Mattoso Maia (G 28). Then it was sunk in a live fire exercise just two weeks ago on Dec 15.

Got the book "Ships of the Line" for Christmas. Haven't had a lot of time to look it over yet, but I love the background ships in this piece by Don Hillenbrand.

Sigh. I'm not sure if we need a 2nd TOS reboot, but this certainly seems like the direction they're heading. Also, I like Thomas Jane but I'm not so sure he's a great choice for McCoy.
