I’ve been through quite a few government shutdowns over the years, and I have some thoughts on how this one ended.

A few more photos from tonight’s incredible #aurora. I’m fascinated by the amount of red light tonight. This is generated by oxygen molecules being excited by light plasma at least 600 km above the Earth. The green is also oxygen molecules, but much lower (100-250km). Definitely a great night.

Really incredible how radical this agenda sounds in the year 2025. There was a time I’d have considered all this nearly communism. Now, I’m not so sure FDR wasn’t right. Certainly, corporate power is out of control. The rich get richer. The middle class finds it harder and harder to get ahead.

When I was in undergrad (Russian), my uni thought to close some language programs including mine. I was interviewed and argued the need to know a language to study a country’s culture, history and politics. They kept mine open for a while. Knowing a language is like a key - AI can’t unlock that.

Trump has no formal power to affect this decision, and of course a presidential pardon has no bearing on state prosecutions, but now he can claim credit if the decision goes his way.
