It's amazing how far CockroachDB has come. Redpanda looks neat!

I made this statement in 2016: "Databases will soon join mail servers on the list of things you don't ever want to host or manage yourself". I was way off. Data stores including CockroachDB and Redpanda have reduced most use cases to a single binary, and SQLite finds itself in even more places.
