I think Trump's behavior is a weird mix of loving anyone famous, loving anyone who has won something, and being generally timid about criticizing people to their faces — at least when he's still in the early stages of being wowed by their celebrity.

Biden probably won't live much longer, given his aggressive cancer. When he dies, Republicans will probably say mean things. And liberals will say this is hypocritical, given the reverence Charlie Kirk was given. And the conservatives will say Biden was old and wasn't murdered so it's different.

I didn't realize until just now that the Department of War wasn't actually "renamed" the Department of Defense in 1947. In reality, it turned into the Department of the Army, and the DOD was a brand new thing. The last Secretary of War, Kenneth C. Royall, became the first Secretary of the Army.

I think the ICE stuff is the most upsetting aspect of the second Trump term, just because they were able to get so much money for it from Congress, and because the people in charge of it are the most fanatic and cruel anti-immigration extremists in his administration.

the other thing is that this is so easy to predict and the only reason so many of our pundits have a hard time with it is because they have fully bought the idea that Trump is some pure representation of what the Volk wants.

I like how South Park acknowledges the huge evangelical Christian component of MAGA—the degree so much of what they say and do is justified by religious fanaticism. I don’t know why that’s not acknowledged more by other critics, because it’s one of the ugliest aspects of the whole movement.
