Sometimes I meet men, very sterotypically masculine, straight men, who nevertheless care a lot about the rights of gay people like me. They are very humorless about it, and get quite legitimately mad at homophobia. I'm always moved by guys like that, they feel like true "allies."

I didn't realize until just now that the Department of War wasn't actually "renamed" the Department of Defense in 1947. In reality, it turned into the Department of the Army, and the DOD was a brand new thing. The last Secretary of War, Kenneth C. Royall, became the first Secretary of the Army.

I like how South Park acknowledges the huge evangelical Christian component of MAGA—the degree so much of what they say and do is justified by religious fanaticism. I don’t know why that’s not acknowledged more by other critics, because it’s one of the ugliest aspects of the whole movement.

This is some solid analysis.

There’s less to the Epstein story than folk wisdom has led a lot of people to believe. The question is whether MAGA can pivot to embracing that reality, or whether they’re all too deep in the QAnon well at this point. But I wouldn’t underestimate their ability to pivot when Trump wants a pivot.

While campaigning, Trump loudly and often said stopping all the world's wars — and preventing all future wars — was a very, very easy thing to do. He doesn't deserve any wiggle room on this. He said it was a very, very, very simple thing to do. He said this very explicitly.
